About Marie Skłodowska Curie was a Polish and naturalised French scientist who made breakthroughs in chemistry and physics. She grew up in Poland, but a pursuit of education drew her to Paris. Radioactivity, new elements, and new isolation methods were only a few of her scientific discoveries. These advances made her the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win two, and the only ever to win prizes in two different fields.

Did you know? When Curie learned that the University of Warsaw did not accept women, she joined a secret university that met at night to avoid detection by the Russian Empire czar’s police.
